Just fishing

When I was young my Pa and I used to take the canoe fishing a lot. One trip we were side by side as usual, it’s a canoe. I was off one side, he on the other. I was catching trout after trout. He was getting skunked. So of course he came to my side. Still skunked. He couldn’t figure it out. Something about my worm selection I guess? When we were all done and cooking em over the fire he gave me a pat and said, “now that was a good day!”, then we ate our fish. I thought he was upset about getting skunked. But he was just happy for me.

That’s being a parent in a nutshell to me. Our selflessness for our kids just has no bounds. We don’t even realize it I think, just a natural part of being a good parent. And you gotta believe that, someday, they’ll just appreciate that. Fingers forever crossed!!!!
