Spent a couple days in Leavenworth, Washington. It’s a Bavarian Village, AKA: tourist trap. But a cool little town to visit and hang out in if you aren’t in a hurry and want a break from your boat life. Went on a difficult hike in the heat of day up a very steep incline (90 degrees). My pa used to call me part mountain goat so being over confident here was my downfall.
Soooooo, I didn’t make it. Got sick from the 90 degree heat and steep incline. And not just queasy but “Oh shit I’m having a heart attack” sick. But just heat exhaustion thank God. I think the cool sea air is spoiling me! And for some reason my failure to make it to the top put me in a tailspin of sorts. I felt myself going to a dark depressing place for most of the day. Thank God an ice cream, water and getting back to the boat set me at ease again. And lots of water and rest for a few days.
We’ve all been there, whether we talk about it or not is our personal choice, but it’s always near. That dark place in our mind we usually keep at bay. Our past failures, mistakes, or just feeling like you’re at the point where starting over seems pointless. Basically, a very negative place to be. But we all have the ability to turn towards positive thoughts and memories. It takes an effort for sure but is very rewarding. It feels like a win in a sea of losses.
Wishing you fair winds and following seas.
Jeff
