David Littlehead once gave me the best life advice I’ve ever had. And it was at the very start of my career in 92’. He said “Don’t take life to seriously or it’ll kill ya!” He was an animal control Officer on a reservation I worked. If you were on a call and backup wasn’t available or close, he’d just show up. People gravitated to him because of how he lived his life I think.
These words got me through some pretty tough times through my career and life in general. Most of the time they rang true.
I recently watched a guy prepping to leave a slip on his boat. He was grouchy, being onry with his partner, and stressed me out just watching him. Thing is, the group he was with in other boats were all calm, collected and seemed happy and at peace. But the group didn’t seem to mind him at all. They were his friends it seemed and just accepted it.
Most of us want to live a happy, peaceful life not ran by our own anxieties. Even if you haven’t achieved this way of life, surround yourself with people you aspire to. Eventually, hopefully, they’ll rub off on you!
